July update!

Apparently I’m busier than I thought

I mean to write every two weeks but sometimes life just gets in the way. I have finished two ARC books, a mystery and a fantasy, bought a Science fiction Series, a western, and a new mystery anthology. We also celebrated the 4th of July in true Kodak fashion, a downpour and a picnic on our porch with the church family. I also just celebrated my 47th birthday on the 15th.

The first ARC I read was “Just A Football Star” by Deb Goodman. I love my sports movies and thought this would be a good book. I was right. It is about a sports trainer, Oakley, and an injured football star, Alec. They have both had their fair share of trails from the same team. I love Oakley and her tenacity and Alec’s sweet side. I love the chemistry between the two, the setting was beautifully written, and it was a pretty good plot. I highly recommend this one if you you like sweet sports stories.

The second ARC I read, I read in literally 4 hours. I couldn’t put it down! It was “Meeting at The Alter” by Kristine Joy. This one had me laughing and cheering the whole book. It is a second chance, hometown story. Bailey has agreed to be on a reality show to win $300,000 and possibly true love. Sawyer has agreed to be on the same realty show due to his not being able to find the right one. Emma is Bailey’s best friend and Sawyer’s sister-in-law, she also happens to be the producer of the show, but had no idea who either one was matched with. When the curtains go up at the alter, Bailey and Sawyer realize that they were matched together. The problem though, Sawyer stood Bailey up 10 years ago and she never forgave him. They are determined to make things work for $3000,000 and a second chance. There’s a horrible director, a horrifying mechanical baby, and a couple truck scenes that leave you wanting to know what happens. I am going to go download the rest of the series for both of these books, the brothers have their own stand alone books. They are available on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited.

The mystery I read was “To the Tome of Murder” by Lauren Elliot. It is a ‘Beyond the Page Bookstore’ mystery, although it stands very well on its own, you quickly catch on to who is who and what relationship everyone has with each other. Addie finds her cousins boyfriend dead in her clothes boutique. Everything points to her cousin being guilty, but with Addie’s skill of being nosy and seeking out truth, she helps her cousin. During all this, the town of Greyborne Harbor is running a competition celebrating rare cookbooks from the 19th Century. Lots of misdirects and intrigue. I enjoyed it, I have started to look up more of her books, they are on Kindle as well.

I then read Terry Brooks’ “The Black Unicorn.” I picked this one up back ion May. I loved the cover, and I have read one or two of Brooks’ books that my dad has given me on the past and was pretty interested. I started without realizing that it was the second on a series. Oh well, read it anyway. It was a good fantasy read. Ben Holiday has been king of Landover for a year much to the dismay of an evil wizard. He sends Ben, willow and Questor dreams that take them on quests all over the kingdom. Ben is transformed by the evil wizard into someone he and his closest friends don’t recognize. He is lead by a prism cat that helps him realize that he is the one who can help himself.

I then picked up a western, a new genre for me, it looked interesting and I have read Louie Lamour and enjoyed those so I figured I give it a shot. I’ve read a few pages so far, but it really hasn’t grabbed me yet. So I went to our local book store and picked up all three of Andy Weir’s books. My husband and I have both read “Project Hail Mary” and loved it. He read “Martian” a few years back and really liked it, I started reading it and am hooked. He started “Artemis” and seems to be pretty into it. I then picked up an Agatha Christie Anthology that looks really interesting, “Marple.” It appears to be several new mystery writers writing in the style of Agatha Christie. I will let you know how that one turns out.

I have such a varied reading life. Do you stick with one genre or are you as eclectic as I am? DO you have any books that you think I should read? Would you like help deciding what to read next? Let me know! till next time, love and prayers, Becky
