Summer has always been my favorite season because of how much I love the heat, Fourth of July, and my birthday. But Fall, oh the colors, the smell of cranberries in the woods, crunchy leaves on the ground, and of course, the Pumpkin Spice Latte. It’s also a a great reason to wrap up with a blanket, a hot cup of tea and a great book.
Fall is when I usually switch up my reads to more Gothic type books, Fantasy reads or some good Cozy Mysteries. I don’t celebrate Halloween but I do enjoy a good spooky read, however, I will save those for a post in October. This post will be mostly about Fall reads that are fun to read all Fall.
I posted a question on Facebook and Instagram and got a few responses, with that and a little research and a few of my all time favorites and classics I think I’ve come up with a pretty good list for you.
“Anne of Green Gables” by L.M. Montgomery Anne is sent by accident to Mathew and Marilla Cuthbert from an orphanage. She becomes part of a family, makes friends and loves Octobers. The wonderful red head is endearing and sweet, and a bit troublesome. For me, this book is the epitome of Fall. https://amzn.to/3rtJnUf

“The Hobbit” by J.R.R. Tolkien Bilbo Baggins lives in a cozy little hole in the ground, not thinking of adventures when along comes Gandalf and “invites’ him to become part of a group of Dwarves as a thief. This is an adventure story that leads you through so many different realms of Middle Earth, where Bilbo meets elves, orcs and other strange creatures. If you’ve only seen the movies, I highly recommend reading the book! https://amzn.to/48kityC

“September” by Rosamond Pilcher I have not read this one personally, however, it comes highly recommended by a few friends. They have described it as a warm blanket. It is set in Scotland, dream vacation of mine especially in the Fall. A family is called home for a final visit. https://amzn.to/3ESP80W

“Eliot Family Trilogy” -Elizabeth Goudge Another friend recommendation, but just about anything by Elizabeth Goudge is wonderful. A family drama set in Hampshire, England and spans WWII. This set is definitely in my TBR list for this Fall! https://amzn.to/3LCtEJc

“The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern I have attempted to read this at one point, but it just wasn’t the right time. It was recommended again from a friend on Facebook, and she said it felt like liquid Fall. Marco and Celia are dueling magicians in a circus thatches with no warning or announcements. There’s love, intrigue and a circus. https://amzn.to/3rpCkMm

“The House of Seven Gables”- Nathaniel Hawthorn I debated on putting this one here or waiting for my October list of spooky reads but I love this story. There’s a cursed family, friends who are visiting, death and revenge. This is one of the greatest American Literature stories written. One of my favorite podcasts, “Fictional”, did a version of this and it was great. https://amzn.to/3LzVQN5

“Murder on the Orient Express” by Agatha Christie I had to read this twice to figure out who did it, lol. I love Agatha Christie books and struggled on which one to include in the list because, let’s face it, Fall is made for mysteries. It’s cool and you just want to curl up with a good who done it. Strangers on a train and a murder on board and of course the amazing Hercule Peroit is there to figure out the killer. https://amzn.to/48wxspe

“Jane Eyre” by Charlotte Bronte My second favorite Bronte Sister book. “Withering Heights” is my first, but for me, that falls in the Winter reads catagory. Jane is an orphan that takes a job as a governess at Thornfeild Hall for a bachelor who has charge of his niece. She falls in love and finds a secret that forces her to make a difficult decision. https://amzn.to/3rxHIgf

“The Vanishing at Castle Moreau” by Jamie Jo Wright Jamie Jo Wright may be one of my newest favorite authors I’ve recently discovered. She is a Christian Suspense writer and writes the most hauntingly beautiful spooky stories that revolve around God’s redeeming love. I’ve listened to a couple of her others and these are wonderful. In Castle, there are three timelines and missing girls, and a family secret. https://amzn.to/465oU74

“Quartet of Autumn” by Barbra Pym This is another friend recommendation that is on my TBR list. “This is the story of four people in late middle-age – Edwin, Norman, Letty and Marcia – whose chief point of contact is that they work in the same office and they suffer the same problem – loneliness. Lovingly, poignantly, satirically and with much humour, Pym conducts us through their small lives and the facade they erect to defend themselves against the outside world. There is nevertheless an obstinate optimism in her characters, allowing them in their different ways to win through to a kind of hope.” Amazon summary. https://amzn.to/3PPhMpM

I hope that you find a new favorite Fall book to read. I know that I’ve added a few to mine thanks to some friends. Let me know which one(s) you read.
I have set the LORD always before me:
because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth:
my flesh also shall rest in hope. Psalms 16:8-9
Prayers and Blessings, Becky ❤️
