Let me introduce you to some of my all time favorite Science Fiction/ Fantasy books that I re-read on a regular basis.

Science Fiction and Fantasy are 2 of my absolute favorite genres of books. It is what I read for comfort. I love the escape to a different world that I find in fantasy. I enjoy the science in science fiction as long as it at least believable even if not probable. I also love the world building that some authors come up with. In others, it is the characters that I end up loving. And others, there are just so much fun. (There are affiliate links, where I may get a small commision)

5. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams– My intro to Science Fiction came from my dad and Star Trek when I was little. Then when I was probably around 12, he introduced me to Douglas Adams. Meeting Arthur and Ford, Trillian, Zaphod Beeblebrox and Marvin the chronically depressed robot was a blast. Ford Prefect is working the updates for the “Hitchhiker’s Guide” and meets Arthur Dent and when Arthur’s house is threatened to be destroyed for a road at the same time as the Earth is scheduled to be destroyed. There are aliens, mice, the ultimate computer, and towels. It is hilarious and a quick read. This may be a favorite due to the link with my dad. Amazon Link:https://amzn.to/3U14ol8.

4. The Time Machine by H.G. Wells A story about a scientists discovery about traveling so far into the future that he sees the future humans, the Morlocks and the Eloi. He tries to study the beings and tries to return to his time, but runs into a problem, his Time Machine has been stolen. I read this book every couple years and listen to the 1940’s podcast all the time. The 1960’s movie is fantastic. Amazon Link: https://amzn.to/3O45lFv

3. Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir Written by the same author that wrote “The Martian.” This book had me laughing through the whole book almost. The premise is that there is a new type of radiation hitting the Earth. The countries get together to build a shuttle to find out how to fix the problem. On the Shuttle is Ryland Grace, a middle school science teacher who is also a great scientist, who wakes up not remembering who he is or what he is doing. With his crew mates dead, he needs to figure out how to get back by himself, possibly. I have heard that they are going to make a movie from it. If it is anything “The Martian” book and movie, it should be good. Amazon Link:https://amzn.to/3ShJVqV

2. Elantris by Brandon Sanderson This was the first Sanderson book I read and boy was I hooked. The world building is incredible. The characters are believable. Elantra’s was once a grand city where the gods lived. Now it is where Arelon sends its people that have developed ‘The Shoad’ a sickness that affects people of all stations with no rhyme or reason. Prince Raoden is one of these, he is loved by all the citizens of Arelon. Princess Serene is from Teod who is to be married but tragedy strikes the day she is to meet her betrothed. Then there is Heather, a High Priest of Fjordell, he is detrained to convert the citizens of Arelon, or they will be destroyed. There is mystery, intrigue, romance, political scheming, action and all sorts of fun things. Amazon Link: https://amzn.to/48SqHNV

1.Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson After I read Elantris, I picked this one up on a recommendation from a friend and a homeschool book. I fell in love with the main character, Vin. She is vulnerable yet strong. She is a thief that can manipulate people’s feelings. She is unaware that she can do and her bosses just think she is lucky. When a leader of another thieving group find Vin, he takes her and trains her and finds out she is a mist born, someone who has special abilities that rely on metals that she ingests. This group is out to overthrow the tyrannical government. It is run by a being known as Lord Ruler, someone who has no known beginning. This is the first in a trilogy. The other books are, “The Well of Ascension” and “The Hero of Ages.” I have read this series several times and I recommend it to everyone. The characters have grown on me over the years. I have set the LORD always before me:
because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth:
my flesh also shall rest in hope. Psalms 16:8-9
